An exciting collaborative construction project with teams working in unison to design and build an impressive bridge. Each team builds the bridge to their customer expectations while overcoming limited resources, communication barriers and strict timelines. The exciting finale sees each team’s individual bridge being connected to create the huge, extended Company Bridge. The final construction is tested with delegates driving a remote-controlled car driving around the Company Bridge. A fun, engaging, hands on event with very powerful metaphors – where all departments of an organisation strive towards their own goals, but also play a vital role in the bigger picture. The Bridge to Unity event is the perfect event to work on the notion of One Team and breaking down silos as cross functional teams work together towards the same objective. Key Facts
The Bridge to Unity team building event will see your delegates divided into teams of approximately 6 people per team.
There is no winning team in the Bridge to Unity activity. Instead, all teams are working as ‘one team’ – together towards a common goal. The whole group goal is achieved when all the bridges have been joined together and the integrity of the extended bridge is successfully tested with a remote-controlled car.
Often this event is tailored to suit conference themes and outcomes relating to working as one team, common goal & breaking down silos. We’d recommend incorporating a whole team debrief at the end of the activity to reinforce these outcomes.
We require a large, cleared indoor or outdoor space for this activity plus one table per team.
For any activity held on council owned land a permit is required. We will organise this on your behalf and add the permit cost to your booking.
One Activity, Two Options
There are two options for how the Bridge to Unity activity can be facilitated:
Option One: 60 – 90 minutes
Teams are given equal equipment to build their section of the bridge and complete the final activity joining all sections of the bridge. The remote-controlled cars are driven by the delegates around the bridge to test the overall success of the task.
Option Two: 2 -3 hours
Teams must earn the pieces of their bridge by successfully completing a series of team-based tasks. The more resources you earn the more resources you will have to build your section of the bridge.
Example Team-Based Tasks for Option 2:
Eddy the Egg
Teams construct a space capsule device out of straws and tape to catch a raw egg dropped from 2 metres.
Foil Towers
Teams race against the clock to build the tallest tower using only foil.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Bridge to Unity activity can be hosted indoors or outdoors, as long as you have sufficient space which will change depending on your group size. Talk to us about where you’re thinking of hosting the activity. Should you need to use council owned land such as a park, oval or reserve we will need to attain a permit. We will do all the liaising with council on your behalf; however, any permit fees are an additional cost.
Not usually for this event – the event is structured in a way that all teams come together and work as one team rather than competing against each other. Therefore, we don’t usually have a winning team in this event.

It really challenged some team members to get out of their comfort zone and also think outside the square. There was great collaboration between teams (well, bribery but it worked 🙂 ). They all commented on their sense of achievement on completing the bridges and whilst sceptical they would hold up, the cars proved them wrong! A great exercise that worked well for our team.”
